Governance

The SGSWA is:
  • An 'other unincorporated entity' - a number of people grouped together by a common purpose with club-like characteristics - known as the 'Sydney Grammar School Women’s Association'
  • Registered as a Charity with the Australian Charities and Non Profit Commission ('ACNC') and has been since 3 December 2012
  • Required to meet the regulations of the ACNC and provide an Annual Information Report
  • A not-for-profit organisation, allowing it to make profit that must be used in the operation of the organisation or to carry out its purpose
  • Enabled by Committee Members, who are responsible persons as defined by the ACNC and whose roles are registered with the ACNC ​
  • Governed by its Constitution.

Our Financial Year is 1 October to 30 September. SGSWA 
  • Is registered for GST and has been since 1 July 2000
  • Received an Income Tax Exemption from 1 July 2000
  • Received a GST Concession from 1 July 2005
  • Received a GST exemption for Events and the Weigall Canteen from 1 October 2017, noting that the Grammar Shop is required to collect and pay GST
  • Is required to provide fully audited accounts at the AGM held in November.
 
The Grammar Shop is the primary source of SGWSA income. Other, lesser sources of income may include:
  • Second-hand book sale
  • Weigall Canteen
  • Social events, noting that these are not intended to generate profit and more-typically break even.​
