Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation
Cooper Rice-Brading was a junior elite AFL player, representative cricketer and talented rugby player. In early 2016 he was about to start his HSC year at Sydney Grammar School. On his birthday in late January, Cooper was on a father-son trip to the Australian Open, and was lifting some light weights in the hotel gym. He complained of soreness in his bicep/tricep region, which he, and the medical professionals engaged to care for him later that week, attributed to a possible muscle tear. He was after all, a devout sportsman, and like most other sport mad teenagers, prone to a range of minor injuries. After being referred for a routine MRI, the seemingly healthy, sport-loving seventeen year old, learned he had an aggressive and rare osteosarcoma or bone cancer. He started the Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation and was passionate about finding a cure for this disease. Sadly he died later that year before a cure could be found.
The Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation aims to provide the long-term funding required to find a cure for sarcoma, whilst improving quality of life throughout treatment and beyond, for young sarcoma patients, and their families.
