WhatsApp GroupsMost Forms have parent-run WhatsApp groups. These informal groups provide an opportunity to connect with other parents in the year, ask questions and generally stay wired-in to what's going on. If you are not currently in a parent-run WhatsApp Group and are interested in joining, you are welcome to contact the SGSWA Committee representative for your year or email our Manager Penny Burton at [email protected] for more information.

SGSWA Events 2024
New Parents' Breakfast Tuesday 27 February
The SGSWA in conjunction with the Father's Association were delighted to host new parents to College Street on a wet morning at the end of February. It was a good opportunity for old friends to catch up and new parents to get to know parents in their son's year group. There was a delicious spread of food to enjoy.
Form VI SGSWA Parent Party Friday 1 March
It was hot and noisy in the Wallace King Room as 130 parent and carers gathered to celebrate the commencement of the final year of our boys schooling.
Food, wine, and great company were the contributing factors that made the 2024 Form VI Parent Party such a fun night. Thanks to Penny, Olivia and Caroline for organising the event.

Form III Trivia Night Wednesday March 27 in Big School
On 27 March 2024, Form III boys enjoyed a fabulous Trivia Evening in Big School, along with students from Wenona Girls School. Organised by the SGSWA, and with support of parent volunteers, the event was a great opportunity to foster informal co-ed fun while promoting the values of Respectful Relationships.
Hosted by a professional Quiz Master the students worked in groups and put their trivia ‘know-how’ to the test. There was lots of excitement and friendly competitive spirit on the night with a close race to take out the coveted first prize position. Based on the volume level, the Heads and Tails Game was a particular highlight!
Thank you to everyone who helped to make this evening a great success for Form III!

Literary Lunch Friday 10 May
Over 100 Parents and carers came together at the Pullman Hotel on College Street to hear Shankari Chandran in conversation with Alison Herbert (Form V). Mum's, carers and friends came together over a glass of champagne on arrival followed by a delicious lunch. The conversation from Shankari and Alison was very engaging with lots of open questions allowing Shankari to entertain us with many stories. Thank you to Anita Alexander (Form V) for all her hard work in putting together a very successful and enjoyable event and to Alison for agreeing to be 'in conversation' with Shankari and doing it so well. Form VI enjoyed the opportunity to have a celebration of their final Literary Lunch as a Parent Group.
Book Club Tuesday 14 May - Banjo Paterson Library
15 very enthusiastic parents from different year groups came together in the School Library to enjoy some cheese and wine before settling down to discuss the book: 1913 The Year Before the Storm, by Florian Illes. A robust and passionate discussion followed and an agreement by the group to stay in touch. Thank you to Ms Ava Banerjee for hosting and facilitating the discussion and to Brooke Pepper for organising the event. Another one is planned for later in the year. If you are not yet an SGSWA member, please go to our membership page and join, to hear about all our events.
Weigall Canteen 2024
A huge thank you goes to Paulina Moncrieff (Form V) for running the Weigall Canteen this year. It started with a very successful Athletics Carnival in Term I and continued for the GPS winter sport home games in term II and III. Thank you to all parents who were able to support this either with food or time serving in the canteen. The last canteen for the year will be held at the House Sports Day on Wednesday 13 November.
Form VI Australian Art Tour Tuesday 21 May
On the 31st of May, fifteen mothers of Form VI boys were guided by Mara on an Australian Art Tour from Australian settlement until 1963.
In 1963 John Olsen painted "Five Bells".
"Five Bells" (1939) is a poem written by Kenneth Slessor about Joe Lynch who fell off a ferry and sunk to the bottom of Sydney Harbour near Sydney Opera House.
If you look carefully at Olsen's painting one can see Joe Lynch at the bottom of the harbour.
The first painting on this highlights tour was a painting by Elioth Gruner "Spring Frost" 1919.
This was chosen as the most aesthetically pleasing painting on the tour and agreed this would be the painting to take home if we could choose just one from the gallery.
We finished with lunch at "Craft" after the tour.
